Treatment options

Not one treatment.
A complete program.

Lyme disease is complex. Your treatment should reflect that. Here is everything we offer — and how we decide what is right for you.

Our approach

Why we combine treatments

Over three decades of treating Lyme disease, we have learned one thing with absolute certainty: no single treatment works for everyone, and no single treatment works alone.

Borrelia burgdorferi is a sophisticated organism. It can evade the immune system, persist in biofilms, hide in tissues with poor blood supply, and shift between active and dormant forms. A treatment program that addresses only one of these mechanisms will leave the others untouched.

That is why every patient at Klinik St. Georg receives a personalized, multi-modal treatment program — built around their specific biology, their symptom profile, and their treatment history. We do not apply the same protocol to every patient. We design a program for each one.

You can explore our full treatment programs on the St. George Hospital website.

Heckel HT3000 whole-body hyperthermia treatment beds at Klinik St. Georg

Core treatment

Whole-body hyperthermia

The cornerstone of our Lyme treatment program. Your core body temperature is gently raised to 41.6–41.8°C under sedation using the Heckel HT3000 — a certified medical device. At this temperature, Borrelia bacteria become structurally unstable and more vulnerable to the immune system and concurrent antimicrobial therapy.

We have performed over 30,000 hyperthermia sessions since 1994. The procedure takes approximately 6 hours, is performed in a fully monitored hospital setting, and most patients undergo 2–3 sessions during their treatment stay.

What your treatment program may include

Core treatment

Thermal therapy

Whole-body hyperthermia

Controlled fever therapy that raises your core temperature to 41.6–41.8°C, making Borrelia bacteria structurally vulnerable. Performed under sedation with continuous cardiac monitoring. Our most experienced treatment modality with over 30,000 sessions performed.

Core treatment

Multi-modal

Integrative protocol

A coordinated combination of hyperthermia, antimicrobials, immune support, nutritional therapy, and detoxification. Each protocol is designed for the individual patient based on their diagnostic profile, symptom presentation, and treatment history. No two programs are identical.

Supporting treatment

Blood filtration

H.E.L.P. apheresis

A blood filtration procedure that removes inflammatory proteins, circulating immune complexes, and bacterial debris from the bloodstream. Particularly valuable for patients with high inflammatory burden, neuroborreliosis, or treatment-resistant systemic inflammation. Performed in our dedicated apheresis unit.

Antimicrobial

Targeted antibiotic therapy

Strategic antibiotic selection based on your specific Borrelia strain, co-infection profile, and treatment history. We use antibiotics as part of the integrated program — not as a standalone intervention. Timing is coordinated with hyperthermia sessions to maximize effectiveness when bacteria are most vulnerable.

Supporting treatment

Intravenous

IV therapy and laser

Intravenous vitamin C, glutathione, phospholipids, and mineral infusions to support detoxification, immune function, and cellular recovery. IV laser therapy (photobiomodulation) is used to stimulate mitochondrial function and support the body's healing mechanisms during and after treatment.

Diagnostics

Comprehensive testing

Standard Lyme tests miss things. Our diagnostic protocol includes specialized Borrelia panels, co-infection screening, immune function analysis, inflammatory markers, and biomarker mapping. Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of every effective treatment program.

Your treatment journey

How we build your program

Every case is different. Here is how we design your treatment.

1
Comprehensive assessment

We review your full medical history, prior treatments, and current symptoms before your arrival.

2
Advanced diagnostics

In-depth laboratory testing during your first days to map your infection profile and immune status.

3
Personalized protocol

Your treatment plan is built around your diagnostic results — not a one-size-fits-all template.

4
Treatment and monitoring

2–3 weeks of coordinated therapy with daily monitoring and adjustments as needed.
